The LAB-8/e is a modified PDP-8/e with additional features such as A/D. (Basically, the old LINC features merged into a PDP-8, obsoleting its predecessors, the LINC-8 and PDP-12.) Unlike the LINC/PDP hybrid machines, this actually adds instructions to the PDP-8. Adding support for these instructions is the easy bit. The hard bit is extending the PiDP-8/I front panel to talk to the associated peripherals. According to Oscar Vermuelen, it is possible to do this via the Expansion Port, potentially tying it into an Arduino with a suitable shield to provide the necessary I/O peripherals. The primary criterion for success is to be able to run the kaleidoscope demo or Spacewar on an X-Y oscilloscope via this mechanism. | ||||
